Please Let Me Introduce You To One Awesome Kid

I asked for permission from this young man’s mother before I put his photo up and asked if I could share his story.  Little did I know that I really don’t know too much about his story.  I met the young lad last summer.  We were told he would make a great addition to our All-Star baseball team.  I called his mother, she agreed to join us and it was done.

We got to the first practice and he hit the field.  Oh my, this kid has an arm that won’t quit.  Wow, I watched him snag a ground ball, backhanded and boom, a straight shot  first base.  Someone stop me before I go kiss this kid!

We took a water break.  I walked up behind him where the kids were playing and parents were chatting.  I look at him…he has something…..

(this is where I showed how ignorant I am to the idea of hearing impaired and hard of hearing people)

………..he has something on his head.  Yikes, a hearing aid.  This kid who can hit like Jose Canseco and field like Derek Jeter (in the context of his 7 year old body).

I slipped over to my husband, mumbled to him (as if Camron could have heard me, he only had one aid in because the other one was being repaired).  I asked if he knew that Camron was wearing aids.  He nodded that he had seen them.

Later his mother explained to me the best way to communicate with him when he was a base runner and it never dawned on me that I was giving him verbal instructions on fielding while standing behind him.  Again, my own lack of knowledge was showing.

Here we are, not quite a year later, this little guy is on our team this year.  Both my boys are fortunate enough to play on this team with this special kid and they are learning so much.  Hopefully they won’t be 42 years old and learning about how hearing affects this youngsters life.

People, I’d like to tell you that he is a sweet kind hearted boy who tries.  The fact of the matter is, he is a sweet kind hearted boy who can rock the game of baseball.  He is an excellent base runner because when he rounds first, he is looking at the third base coach just like he is suppose to.  He is an excellent fielder because he breaks on the ball and depends on his eyes to get him to the ball promptly and successfully.

He is playing first base and you have never seen a youngster who can stretch out across the ground to pull in a ball that is thrown short by one of his teammates.  Next thing you know, he see’s the thing flying over his head and he is chasing down one a kid over threw.  And then, someone finally hits him right in the mitt with the ball.

in a tournament game last weekend, he stretched long for out one, stretched long for out two, stretched long for out three.  I heard awww’s all over the ball field.  And, the umpire turned and spoke to me as I stood behind the backstop cheering.  He made a remark about how good this kid was.  I let him praise this kids abilities.  When he was finished, I let him know just how amazing this little boy really is.

Camron is absolutely amazing ya’ll.  Go join his mother on her blog Do You Hear What I See? I know you are going to fall in love with this kid.
