Raising Happiness: Christine Carter, Ph.D

Posted on Nov 2, 2010 12:55:52 PM

Christine Carter, Ph.D., is a sociologist and happiness expert best known for her science-based parenting advice. Dr. Carter follows the scientific literature to understand ways that we can teach children skills for happiness, emotional intelligence, and resilience. She is the author of Raising Happiness: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents and she writes a blog for UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, syndicated on the Huffington Post and Psychology Today.

Because sorting fact from fiction can be confusing when it comes to parenting, Dr. Carter strives to be a counterpoint to the more opinion-based parenting advice platforms. All of her advice is based on scientific research.

That said, Dr. Carter’s blog and her book, Raising Happiness, are as much about her personal life and her own children as they are about science. Her humorous, parent-to-parent tone and tell-all approach make scientific research accessible. She writes:
