Educating the World – One Person at a Time

It’s not so much a matter of perspective anymore..my boys are young and I am old

Baseball season is in full gear.  I mean, I’m tired already.  We are with a group of good kids but a lot of new faces.  Last night, I had a reason to go out on the field with the kids and I found myself between these two little boys that I had never seen.  As a matter of fact, I knew what their names were, but wasn’t sure which name actually belonged to which kid.  I do know they are both six.  That’s about the only thing I knew for certain.  OH and they were cute as they could be.

Until…………

We were in the outfield, one of them looks up at me and says,

that you grandson’s up there?”

“Excuse me?”

Your Grandson, that yours, you their Grandma?”

“UH?”

That boy up ‘thar, he your grandson?”

Still a bit floored with the conversation, I said, “No, why?”

Well why you here then?  Where is thar mother?”

He was only 6……otherwise, he would not have been near so lucky!  No where close.

And with that, I have realized that the fact of the matter is, I am 42, my kids are 6 and 8 and I am, at least in the eyes of other 6 and 8 year olds, old.  There, I said it.  Does that make anyone feel better?

I need a favor, I’m always asking for something it seems….

I have a friend, we call him Dad of Diva’s and he has a Diva who has managed to raise that Diva to be a good citizen.  She is in a contest for a project she did on Aaron’s known as “Pay It Forward”.  Here is the general information:

Selfless Act of a 5 Year Old
Description:
My daughter came to me with a handful of stickers saying that kids who go to our food bank should get to pick stickers out when they go there with their families. Being the father that I am, I said to her, "That is a wonderful idea!" we should try and get more people involved. I pushed her to think larger. I told her that I would call the food bank and see if they were interested (which they were) and that I would contact her school to see if we could get the school involved in any way. This project was one that made her think broadly and made her think differently about the world around her. I am so proud of her and what she did! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5Jkd53tCnA

So, if you feel moved enough to vote, please go to this link and vote for this sweet girl with a big heart!
